We are in the process of reapplying for planning permission. This time we hope that permanent permission may be obtained. Any letters of support would be gratefully received and most appreciated! Thank you!

I would also like to thank everyone who donated their time, money or other goods towards the recent make-over of the rescue. This was a wonderful surprise and also a great help - thank you! However, there are still many jobs that need doing. In particular, if you are good at DIY and can donate a day to help with fixing gates and hutches at the rescue then please get in touch!

Thank you to everyone who supported my campaign to keep the rabbit residence open!

An amazing 1967 people signed our petition to keep The Rabbit Residence open! Reading your words of support was a great source of strength at this very stressful time and so I am very grateful to all those who took the time to sign the petition. We passed the petition over to the council and I am sure that it helped to strengthen our case.

Thankfully, we were successful in our bid to obtain planning permission to keep the site open! However, I have only been granted permission for a year which means that I will have to make a reapplication later in the year. We will keep you updated on the progress.

Kindest regards,

Caroline (Autumn 2007)

Our website has recently been honoured with a Munchkin award!

This award aims to promote education and responsible rabbit care in the community and so we are thrilled to be recipients.   For more information about the award, please follow the following link:

Introduction

Thank you for taking the time to express an interest in ‘rescuing’ a pair of rabbits. Each year more than 33,000 rabbits are handed over to shelters because their owners can’t or won’t look after them. The day people stop buying rabbits from pet shops is the day pet shops will stop selling them and perhaps rabbits will no longer be abandoned and mistreated as they are today.

Through this website I provide as much information as I can about rabbits, how to look after them and how much fun you can have when things go well. It is only fair to also outline how, if things don’t go to smoothly, to cope and how to get the most from your relationship with your rabbits that you can. Rabbits are wonderful pets and give hours of enjoyment if they are looked after and loved.

I invite all people who make contact with me to visit the Rabbit Residence Rescue facilities; to watch and learn first hand how rabbits like to live, the size of run they should have and how and why I make the recommendations that I make. I want you to know and understand what you take on when you ‘adopt’ a pair of rabbits! That way the rabbits will not suffer any further disappointments and harm in uncaring homes.

Please read the information on this website carefully. It will help you decide if you want to look after rabbits and what kind of support is available.
